Most importantly we are followers of the Christian faith, which involves these essential beliefs:
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the word of God and is authoritative. It was given to us by God through the work of the Holy Spirit inspiring human writers, and it is essential and sufficient for helping us to understand God’s promises and will for our lives. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 15:4, Hebrews 4:12)
God
We believe in the God of the Bible, as the Bible has revealed him in his character, in his nature, and in his work. He is the only true God and has existed from before creation as three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – who are equal, distinct, and united. He is the creator and sustainer of all things, the author and perfecter of our faith, and the comforter and guide for our souls. (Genesis 1:1-26, Colossians 1:16-17, Matthew 28:19)
Creation and Mankind
God has created all things except for himself and created all things good and with the purpose of glorifying and honoring him. The greatest of all his creations was mankind, who was created as man and woman and in the image of God. (Genesis 1 and 2, Hebrews 11:3, John 1:1-3)
The Fall and Sin
Scripture teaches us that the first human beings, Adam and Eve, rebelled against God, and as a result creation became fallen, no longer perfectly reflecting God’s created purpose. As a further result, humanity today continues to be corrupt and in rebellion against God’s law and deserves eternal separation from him. (Genesis 3, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Psalm 53:3)
Redemption
However, God the Father promised from the beginning that he would put into motion a plan to save us from our sin, a plan which he revealed through the history of his people Israel in the Old Testament, but most properly found its fulfillment in the coming of his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was born, fully human and fully God, and lived the only sinless human life ever, demonstrating love, compassion and righteousness to the world. Jesus was allowed to suffer and die on a cross in order to make atonement for the sins of all mankind. God made this plan so that through sincere repentance and faith in Jesus’ work on the cross, all who believe can receive forgiveness of sins and life everlasting – a complete reversal and healing of the fall – which is experienced in part now but will be experienced completely in eternity beyond this life. (Romans 3:9-20, John 3:16-21, Hebrews 9:15, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Revelation 22:1-5)
Sanctification
Those who believe in Jesus are filled with the Holy Spirit, who leads us and enables us into a new redeemed life in Christ. This life is a life of cooperating with the Holy Spirit, of growing thankful obedience to God, of using our gifts and service to honor God and bless our neighbor, and in all ways increasingly being transformed into the people God wants us to be. (Romans 12:1-2, Galatians 5:13-26, 2 Peter 1:5-8)
