The Back to School BBQ
Each August West Leonard’s back parking lot is turned into the site of a fun community gathering celebrating the upcoming school year. Grilled burgers, sides and drinks are provided along with all sorts of fun and games. There is a craft table, face painting, yard games, a bounce house, and even a dunk tank! Trying to dunk the pastor is always a good time! We also have free books and school supplies. Next August watch for our date and time and join us! All are welcome!
Diaper Depot
The Diaper Depot exists to help families with financial hardships provide their children with diapers. While access to an appropriate number of diaper changes per day is a basic human need, purchasing enough diapers can be difficult and costly. While helping meet a need, our number one goal will always be that families feel God’s love and care for them unconditionally.
Did you know?
The average child goes through about 30 diapers per week – if changed often enough. Each diaper costs on average about 30 cents. A week’s worth of diapers for one child can cost a family between $9 – $10. This does not include the cost of wipes, creams, etc. Obviously, multiple children in diapers creates an even bigger challenge.
In spite of being a basic human need, diapers cannot be bought with most kinds of financial assistance including a Bridge Card.
Very few resources exist to help families with this need. It is the number one request from clients to DHS workers, social workers, and food pantry staff.
Neighborhood Work Day
For the past 20 years or so, West Leonard Church has been reaching out to our neighbors by offering help with yard work or other small projects that they have difficulty doing on their own. The yard work might include some lawn mowing or raking leaves, trimming bushes, or edging sidewalks. Other projects could be smaller carpentry jobs like repairing or replacing handrails or a few wooden steps. We have also taken on some minor painting projects on several of these workdays. The spring workday usually takes place on a Saturday in late April and the fall work day on a Saturday in late September or early October. If you have some yard work or a smaller project you would like us to consider, please contact our church office with the request.
Farmer's Market
Each Thursday, between June and October, West Leonard hosts a Farmer’s Market in our front parking lot off Leonard Street. Our Farmers are here with fresh in season fruits and vegetables for you between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. Be sure to come check it out.
